Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
The ornament is the constant and the copy is the variable: the plate was cut so a merchant's name and address could be engraved or written into the oval later, which makes it a reusable identity frame rather than a one-off advertisement. Every figure is a claim in allegory - the trumpet is reputation, the caduceus is commerce, the ships are imported stock, the drawn drapery is a reveal. Because the surrounding hatching is so dark, the empty oval reads as a hole of light and the eye lands there first, so the eventual lettering inherits the strongest position on the sheet without competing with the art.
Steal this when
You need one piece of artwork to carry many different messages - a template, a series cover, a certificate - and want the frame to do the persuading so the changeable copy can stay plain.
