Trade card for Jacob & George Roeters en Compagnie, Amsterdam
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
The plate is a stock argument. Two walls of filled pigeon-holes, a scale in use and silks thrown loose across the floor say depth of inventory faster than any adjective could, and the open doorway at the vanishing point puts the loom in the same picture as the counter so the word fabriek is proved rather than asserted. Keeping the range list in a separate ruled tablet rather than in the banner leaves the naming line clean and puts the specifics exactly where a buyer hunting one fabric will look. The single vanishing point on the loom is the composition's whole trick: everything the eye follows ends at the making.
Steal this when
Use this when your advantage is breadth of stock or the fact that you manufacture what you sell. Show the depth physically rather than counting it, and get the production step into the same frame as the sale.
