The pattern

This still is filed under Keepable trade card.

Define

A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.

Mechanism

Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.

Verdict

We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.

Why it works

The card is a work sample disguised as an announcement - every claim about neatness is settled by the object in the buyer's hand before he finishes reading it. Borrowed authority does the credentialing in six words: naming Jefferys, Geographer to the King, transfers a royal warrant's credibility to a man who never held one. The putti crating prints are not decoration but a capacity claim, showing volume work going out the door. Quality, price and speed are promised in that order in a single closing line, which is the whole service pitch compressed to one sentence.

Steal this when

Steal this whenever the craft you sell can be demonstrated by the artefact that sells it - a designer's own identity, a printer's own catalogue, a copywriter's own landing page. Also steal the borrowed-authority line when you have no credentials of your own but real proximity to someone who does.
