Define

Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
The caption does the whole job. A picture of Victoria alone is wallpaper; fixing it to the morning of her accession converts a stock portrait into a scene from a life the reader already half knows. Reversing the type out of the image instead of setting it underneath keeps the card a single picture at card size, which is what makes it collectable rather than promotional. Carrying no selling copy at all is deliberate: the card's function is to be kept and traded, and the advertiser rides on the reverse.
Steal this when
Use this when you are borrowing a famous person or event for attention. Do not caption who it is; caption the exact moment, and let the specificity carry the interest.
