Kickapoo Indian Remedies 'Attacking the grizzly bear' trade card
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
The picture is the entire pitch. Nothing on this face argues that the medicine works, so the card buys attention with a violent action tableau and then parks the brand name inside the same patch of sky, where the eye cannot take the spectacle without taking the name. That is borrowed-authority positioning: the product has no demonstrable property, so it rents one from a cultural symbol. Trade cards were collected and pasted into scrapbooks, which means the artwork bought months of repeat exposure that a price claim would never have earned a place for.
Steal this when
Use this structure when the product is undifferentiated and its central claim is unprovable, so the real job is name recall rather than persuasion. Put the spectacle first at full bleed and let the brand lockup share the same optical space, so the two cannot be remembered apart.
