The pattern

This still is filed under Keepable trade card.

Define

A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.

Mechanism

Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.

Verdict

We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The picture argues the single objection a buyer of monuments has, which is durability, and answers it before any copy is read: Time is physically being pushed out of the frame. Setting the name and address as though they were carved into the stone block inside the scene makes the identity part of the product demonstration rather than a caption stuck on top of it. The copy then does something very modern - it is a specification list, not a description, running through every object type the works can supply so that the reader finds his own job named somewhere in it. The succession line late Coade & Sealy is placed immediately under the new name in the second-largest size, which is a straight transfer of goodwill at the exact moment the reader is deciding whether this is a firm he has heard of.

Steal this when

Use this when a business has changed hands or rebranded and the old name is the asset - put the new name first and the succession line directly beneath it, at readable size, not buried in the body. The exhaustive capability list is worth copying whenever buyers arrive with wildly different jobs and each needs to see his own named before he will believe you can do it.
