Diamond Package Dyes 'Without you I shall die' trade card
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
The headline is split into two speech lines and parked over the two speakers, so the layout stages a scene instead of announcing a product - the reader reads it as dialogue and only then hears the pun. The gag depends entirely on the homophone, which means the brand word is load-bearing and cannot be paraphrased away. The sell is demoted to a two-line footer in a plain face, and the second line carries the only real claim, simplicity and colour, which are the two objections a home dyer actually has. The vertical OVER is a mechanical page-turn cue on a card with no page.
Steal this when
Steal this when one line of copy has to do double duty as a joke and as the product name, and you want the reader to perform the scene rather than be told it. Split the headline across two speakers and let the layout do the staging.
