Trade-Paper Copy That Helped Oversell a Factory
The pattern
This still is filed under House ad as portfolio.
Define
The firm advertises itself by showing the work, not by describing the work.
Mechanism
Proof by exhibit. The portfolio is the claim. Captions stay short. The pieces carry the argument.
Verdict
We sell craft and the buyer can judge from examples.
Why it works
The case opens on the reader's customer rather than the client's product - jobbers were dissatisfied with their profits - which is the correct entry point for channel marketing and the one most manufacturers skip. It then presents the offer as a numbered pair, differentiation and discount, so the channel argument is explicitly two-sided rather than a product pitch aimed at the wrong audience. Naming the process Crolide Compound shows branding an ingredient to make a commodity ownable. The tipped reproductions let the agency exhibit craft while the copy stays about the client's result.
Steal this when
Use this when you sell through distributors and the bottleneck is their margin, not the end user's interest. Lead with the channel's own profit complaint, then give them a differentiated product and a discount in the same numbered breath.
