How an improvement in design created basic sales difficulties
The pattern
This still is filed under House ad as portfolio.
Define
The firm advertises itself by showing the work, not by describing the work.
Mechanism
Proof by exhibit. The portfolio is the claim. Captions stay short. The pieces carry the argument.
Verdict
We sell craft and the buyer can judge from examples.
Why it works
The headline is a paradox that stops a trade reader cold, because improvement creating sales difficulty contradicts everything he assumes, and paradox buys the first three paragraphs for free. The copy then teaches the reader the history of the habit before revealing the problem, so when the difficulty is named it feels discovered rather than asserted. Naming the obstacle as habit rather than as price or competition is the strategic move being sold: it tells the prospect that this agency diagnoses resistance instead of shouting louder. The single outsized product engraving carries all the mechanical proof, so the copy never has to describe the device.
Steal this when
Use this when your product's best feature demands that the customer resume, learn or restore a behaviour they consider a chore, and the campaign's real job is rehabilitating that behaviour. The paradox headline also works whenever you can name a real cost hidden inside something the market universally reads as good news.
