House ad as portfolio

Found! 10,000,000 new buyers for an old product

idn.duke.edupublic-domain-us

The pattern

This still is filed under House ad as portfolio.

Define

The firm advertises itself by showing the work, not by describing the work.

Mechanism

Proof by exhibit. The portfolio is the claim. Captions stay short. The pieces carry the argument.

Verdict

We sell craft and the buyer can judge from examples.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The headline is a discovery claim, not a benefit claim - Found. forces the reader to ask what was found, and the number answers before the product is even named. The body then opens with a verbatim customer letter rather than agency assertion, so the first voice the reader hears is demand itself, unprompted and misspelled with sincerity. The case is structured as market creation rather than market capture, which reframes advertising from an expense against existing demand to an asset that builds new demand - exactly the argument that justifies an agency fee. Naming the boys Penrod borrows a familiar literary character so the abstract ten million becomes one recognisable kid.

Steal this when

Use this when your client's category looks saturated and the only story available is a new audience rather than a new product. The structure - discovery headline, unsolicited inbound letter, then the size of the new market - works whenever you can prove demand arrived rather than claim it will.
