Copy That Sold 350,000 Motorists
The pattern
This still is filed under House ad as portfolio.
Define
The firm advertises itself by showing the work, not by describing the work.
Mechanism
Proof by exhibit. The portfolio is the claim. Captions stay short. The pieces carry the argument.
Verdict
We sell craft and the buyer can judge from examples.
Why it works
It sells method by narrating a problem the reader will recognise as unsolvable - a real superiority that no one, not even an expert, can see. The three steps are numbered in sequence as first, second and third, which turns a creative decision into a procedure that could be repeated on the reader's own product. The 350,000 figure only means something because the expert's 10 per cent claim is planted as the ceiling beforehand, so the number is read as a broken record rather than a boast. Reproducing the actual ad beside the story lets the reader inspect the evidence, and the concession that the sales force and the product deserve primary credit makes the remaining claim for copy harder to dismiss.
Steal this when
Use this when you need to prove that your work, not luck or the product, caused a result. Narrate the invisible problem, lay out your steps in order, concede the other causes honestly, then let one benchmark number carry the outcome.
