The pattern

Define
An image is dropped into the column of type so the reader meets picture and argument in one scan.
Mechanism
In-flow exhibit. The figure is not a separate see fig. 2. It starts the paragraph. Eye and mind start together.
Verdict
Long copy must show as well as tell: a product cutaway, a before/after, a map in the story.
Why it works
The spread argues in two voices and gives each one its own typographic system. The left page is authority - masthead, editor, price, address, all locked into a solid slab of caps that reads like a letterhead. The right page is the argument, and where the argument shifts from prose to axiom, the layout shifts with it: the measure narrows, the columns split, and a heavy black bar is dropped between them so that the terse statements read as engineering notation rather than continued prose. Setting 'Die Gestaltung außerhalb des Raumes = 0' as literal mathematics borrows the credibility of the technical drawing at a moment when the text is claiming art should behave like construction.
Steal this when
Use this when a manifesto or point-of-view piece needs to move from narrative prose into hard principles, and you want the reader to feel the gear change. Narrow the measure, split the column and put a heavy rule between them at the exact sentence where the argument becomes a rule.
