Define
An image is dropped into the column of type so the reader meets picture and argument in one scan.
Mechanism
In-flow exhibit. The figure is not a separate see fig. 2. It starts the paragraph. Eye and mind start together.
Verdict
Long copy must show as well as tell: a product cutaway, a before/after, a map in the story.
Why it works
The picture and the text run on different registers and that gap is the mechanism: the words are the man's own boasting monologue, the image shows the flies, the decoy owl and the ridiculous silhouette that contradict him. Putting the verse in the first person makes the reader complicit before the punchline, and the closing couplet breaks the frame with a direct address, which converts a caricature of one fop into a mirror. Setting the verse in the empty space beside the figure rather than in a panel below keeps the sheet readable as one image at a distance and as a text up close.
Steal this when
Use this structure when you want to mock a behaviour without lecturing: write the copy as the target's own confident first-person boast, let the visual supply the contradicting evidence, and close by turning the question on the reader.
