Define
An image is dropped into the column of type so the reader meets picture and argument in one scan.
Mechanism
In-flow exhibit. The figure is not a separate see fig. 2. It starts the paragraph. Eye and mind start together.
Verdict
Long copy must show as well as tell: a product cutaway, a before/after, a map in the story.
Why it works
The hierarchy is built entirely from size and weight, six steps in four inches, so an unilluminated sheet still has a clear reading order at a distance. The italic is used as a data field rather than for emphasis, separating rank and status from the name, which turns a typographic convention into a database column three centuries before the term. The hanging asterisk is the real device: a disqualification rule stated once at the top and then applied visibly, in the margin, to name after name, which reads as transparency and is far more persuasive than a claim of fairness would be.
Steal this when
Use this when your credibility comes from a list rather than an argument, an investor roster, a client roll, a signatory page, and the right move is to publish it whole and let its length and quality do the work. The stated-rule-plus-visible-marker pattern is the one to copy any time you need to show a policy being applied evenly rather than assert that it is.
