The pattern

This still is filed under Event symbol poster.

Define

A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.

Mechanism

Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.

Verdict

We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates

Read the pattern

Why it works

One navy shape does the work of three images at once - helmet, hood and hill - so the reader assembles soldier, death and graveyard themselves, which lands harder than being shown all three. The crosses are drawn as open white outlines while the figure is solid, so the dead read as absence and the reaper reads as mass. Cutting the title outside the framing rule breaks the picture plane and makes the accusation feel addressed to the viewer rather than contained in the artwork. Quoting only the conditional half of the line, if ye break faith, leaves the consequence unsaid and forces the reader to supply it.

Steal this when

Use this when the subject is a moral debt or a warning and any explanation would soften it. Build one silhouette that resolves into two or three readings, quote a half-sentence, and let the reader finish it.
