The pattern

This still is filed under Event symbol poster.

Define

A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.

Mechanism

Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.

Verdict

We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates

Read the pattern

Why it works

The poster splits into three fixed bands - institution, picture, event - so a passer-by reads who, what it looks like, and when in that order without any scanning. Red is rationed to two zones only, top and bottom, which turns the pale ochre and brown middle into a window and stops the illustration competing with the information. The crowd is composed walking out of the frame toward the reader, which is the oldest way to make a static scene feel like an event that has already started.

Steal this when

Use this split when an event's pull is the institution behind it rather than the programme - put the name in a colour band at the top, the atmosphere in a boxed image in the middle, and the dates in the same colour at the foot. It also works whenever you want a historical or founding story to carry a present-day fundraising ask.
