The warrior's husband" Julian Thompson's satirical smash hit
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
Scarcity is placed above the title and printed in the only other colour, so the deadline is read before the product - the poster is selling the closing date, not the play. Three separate lettering registers, red script, fat cream condensed caps and green condensed caps, split the three jobs of urgency, title and venue without a single rule or box. The black and red planes cut across each other on opposing angles so a text-heavy sheet reads as motion, which suits a satire and keeps it from looking like a civic notice.
Steal this when
Use this when demand already exists and the only job left is to convert delay - put the deadline above the product name and in a colour nothing else uses. The three-register lettering split is what to copy when you have three unrelated messages and no room for dividing rules.
