Why it works
The title is illustrated twice, once in the lightning and clouds that break over it and once in the ragged, weather-beaten cut of the letterforms themselves, so the word squall arrives as weather before it arrives as a name. Splitting the card into a figure column and a copy column keeps the melodrama and the schedule from fighting, and lets the figure run full height for impact. RESERVE SEATS NOW is the only imperative on the sheet and it is boxed and reversed in weight so it reads as a separate instruction rather than as more detail. Prices at ten, twenty and thirty cents are printed large because at that level the price is the offer.
Steal this when
Use this when the name of the piece is a weather or force word that letterforms and a simple effect can act out, and when you need a single figure to carry genre at a glance. The boxed imperative beside the price is worth copying whenever the ask would otherwise be lost in a block of detail.
