Why it works
The diagonal title makes the lettering behave the way the show promises to behave, so the tone is set before a word is read. Splitting the title across two planes pulls the eye across the whole sheet rather than parking it in one block, and the figure is drawn in outline only so it never competes with the type for ink. Price is set at the same weight as the theatre name, which tells a Depression reader the barrier is low while they are still deciding whether to care.
Steal this when
Copy this when you are selling something light or funny and want the layout, not the adjectives, to carry the tone - break the title across two angles and keep any illustration to line only. Good when price is the real objection and you want it read as part of the headline block instead of buried in fine print.
