Why it works
The landscape proportion is the format talking - this is a streetcar card, read sideways by a seated passenger, so the copy is arranged in horizontal bands with the single black bar acting as the one thing the eye cannot skip. The date is the only reversed-out element on the card, which makes 'when' the loudest fact and correctly treats the opening as news rather than a standing run. The devil is played as a smug fat man in a good suit rather than a monster, which telegraphs a drawing-room comedy of temptation and avoids promising horror the play will not deliver. Address, telephone and transit instruction are all present in one line each, turning the card into a complete response mechanism for a reader who has to act from memory after they step off.

Steal this layout for any wide-format placement read in passing where one date must dominate - reverse only that element and leave everything else positive. The closing address, phone and 'how to get here' line is the pattern to copy whenever the ad has to survive the gap between seeing it and acting on it.
