Setting every word vertically inside the stripe columns collapses image and type into one system, so the composition reads as pure pattern first and resolves into information second - it holds the eye longer than a conventional stacked bill. The three repeated masks encode the three-ghost structure of the story without depicting a single character, which sidesteps the period-illustration cliche the title invites. The palette is limited to two inks plus paper, and the arcs give a flat geometric layout depth without any modelling or shading. Rotating the entire text block is also a practical hierarchy decision: with no competing horizontal, the title becomes unmissable even though it is not the largest element.
