Tessinerabend zu Gunsten wohltätiger Anstalten im Ktn. Tessin im basler Musiksaal, Mittw. 28. Jan., Billets bei H. Hug & Co, Freistr
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
The wreath is doing structural work, not decorative work: it is a closed circle that traps the eye at the centre of the sheet, and the shield hanging inside it is the only hard-edged shape in the composition, so the costume figure gets read first. Splitting the date to the far top corners means the two facts a passer-by needs in one glance, when and what, are physically separated and cannot compete. Everything after that is a strict descending ladder of size, so the poster answers what, for whom, where and how to buy in exactly that order, with the ticket agent last and smallest because it is only needed by people already sold.
Steal this when
You are announcing a one-night benefit or fundraiser where the cause, not the programme, is the reason to come. Lead with a single emblem of the cause, split the date away from the body copy so both read at a glance, and step the practical details down in size to a ticket line that only converts people already persuaded.
