Why it works
The stippled ellipse gives the type a stage without drawing a box, and because its edge is soft the bold headline can break across it without looking like a mistake. Value contrast does the hierarchy work: only the speaker surname and the lecture subject are black, so those two facts survive being read at a distance and everything else recedes to grey-green. The alternation of script and gothic separates the connective words - 8th year of, Will Discuss, at eight p.m - from the load-bearing nouns, which lets the poster read as a sentence rather than a stack. Leaving the bottom third almost empty is what makes the small ruled detail box findable at all.
Steal this when
Copy this when you are selling a named speaker and a subject and nothing else, and the name is the strongest asset you have. The soft shape plus two-value hierarchy is the move whenever an event poster has no illustration to fall back on.
