Why it works
The open book device solves two problems at once, it visualises the word reviews and it creates a natural two-column grid for the two different kinds of detail, what the show is and when you can see it. Splitting the title across the gutter forces the eye to travel the full width of the card, which is what a landscape format needs. Red is rationed to three jobs only, the venue bar, the opening date and the top price, so the three things the theatre most wants remembered are the three things printed in colour. The illustration is built from flat silhouettes with no modelling, a silkscreen economy that also reads at pavement distance.
Steal this when
Reach for this when the format is wide and you have two distinct blocks of information that should not be blended, and when a physical object in the world can carry your title as a picture. Good for announcements where the schedule detail is as important as the name.
