Why it works
Everything on the sheet is tilted a few degrees off horizontal, so the whole poster has the wobble of a man about to fall over, which is the joke the play is making. The head is drawn as pure geometry - a cream blob, an orange wedge, a stepped orange arm - so it caricatures every strongman at once without libelling a specific one, which is what lets a government-funded theatre print it. THE DICTATOR is put on a banner with a flagpole, so the title is literally the flag the figure is marching under. The word FARCE sits immediately under the title and reframes the whole thing from menace to comedy in one word, which is the pivot the poster is built around.
Steal this when
Use this when you want the charge of a loaded, topical word but need the second line to immediately reframe it - put the provocation in the largest type and the defusing word directly beneath. The uniform slight tilt across every element is a cheap way to give a static layout a mood, and it works whenever the subject is instability, comedy or speed.
