Why it works
Lettering and image are drawn by the same hand in the same weight, so the type block reads as ornament of the same family as the branch - there is no announcement layer sitting on top of a picture. The composition is built on one diagonal from the bottom-right figure to the top-left blossom, which drags the eye straight through the date line on its way. Restricting the palette to gold on black gives an exhibition of household objects the register of a religious icon, which is the whole positioning argument of the applied arts movement stated without a word of copy.

Use this when an event needs status rather than information - a summit, a festival, an awards night - and the facts are only place and date. One drawn lettering style for everything, one dominant colour against a dark ground, and a single figure holding the thing you want associated with the event.
