Why it works
The type is dropped into the negative space the drawing deliberately leaves open, so the information sits inside the picture instead of beside it - the woman's arm and the dog's head frame the menu block on two sides and lead the eye straight to it. The two handwritten lines are the only warm script on the sheet and they bracket the composition top and bottom, turning a functional list into a framed image. Colour is rationed to one blue disc, one red collar and ochre line, which is what keeps a page of centred small-caps from looking like a laundry list. Numbering and signing the plate converts an ephemeral, single-use item into something the recipient files rather than throws away.

Use this when an event document is the only physical artefact a high-status audience will take home - a dinner menu, a programme, an invitation. Commission one illustration with a deliberate empty centre, set the functional copy inside it, and number the run so the thing gets kept.
