Why it works
The poster refuses the usual charity move of showing a sympathetic, tidy subject. It shows an old face at close range, unflattered, rendered in relentless contour so that age is the entire subject matter and cannot be skimmed past. Reversing the whole sheet to pale-on-black turns the image into something lit from inside and makes the two text bands read as weight pressing in from above and below. The ask is phrased as a conditional the reader completes themselves - if you want to set something aside, then you help us scatter a flower on their path - so the donor is cast as the actor and the coin is reframed as a flower rather than as money.
Steal this when
Steal this when the cause is unglamorous and the honest depiction is stronger than a reassuring one: go close, render the subject without softening, and carry the whole ask in one conditional sentence that hands the reader the active role.
