The border is not generic ornament, it is drawn from Javanese temple vocabulary, so the frame states the subject before the reader reaches a word. Batik pattern is carried across the costume at full density while the background is reduced to a few flat bands, which keeps a very busy sheet readable by concentrating detail in one zone. The title sits on a solid violet plinth, the only unpatterned mass on the poster, so the event name is the single place the eye can rest. The figure's downcast, averted gaze makes the poster an object to be looked at rather than a person addressing the viewer, which is the period's colonial framing and worth reading critically as well as formally.
