Kleine Dada Soiree (Small Dada Evening) poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
The five red diagonals are the only structure on the page, and every black word is angled with or against them, so a sheet with no grid still resolves into one composition rather than noise. Scale is the entire hierarchy - performers' names are set largest, programme items shrink, the marginal slogans are smallest - so the reader can extract the running order from chaos in one pass. Overprinting black type across red bars pushes roughly half the words onto a second plane, which forces the eye to keep re-sorting foreground from background and keeps the sheet from ever settling. The boxed BANALITÄTEN is the one right-angled, ruled element, and because it is the only orderly thing there it becomes the loudest.
Steal this when
The event you are announcing is itself a provocation, and an orderly announcement would misrepresent it. Use one repeated geometric device - here, diagonal bars - as the only structure, then let type size do all the hierarchy.
