Why it works
The poster is built as a piece of architecture rather than a page: two black piers, a flowering entablature and a black base carrying the name, so the eye is held inside a doorway instead of scanning across. The blank centre is the working device - almost the whole middle of the sheet is empty paper, which makes the single date line read at street distance before any word is deciphered. Latin does the credibility work that a claim line would do in copy, and putting it in red at small size makes it the second read, not the first. Reversing the society name out of a black slab turns the identifier into a foundation stone, so the show reads as an institution rather than an event.
Steal this when
Use this when a recurring event's authority is its history and the date is the only information anyone needs to act on. The frame-plus-empty-centre structure is worth copying whenever a piece must survive being seen small or at distance.
