The pattern

This still is filed under Event symbol poster.

Define

A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.

Mechanism

Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.

Verdict

We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates

Why it works

The name hierarchy does the selling. Giacometti is set in red at roughly double the size of the four blue names below him, so a five-artist show reads as one artist's show with support, and the walker-by only has to absorb one word. The picture is deliberately unbounded, bleeding into white paper rather than sitting in a rectangle, which makes it read as a painting pinned to the wall rather than as a reproduction inside an advertisement. Hand-lettering in the same brush and palette as the image keeps type and art on one surface, so the poster is a sample of the exhibition instead of a notice about it.

Steal this when

Use this when you are promoting a multi-name event where one name carries the draw: give the draw a different colour and twice the size, demote the rest to a single supporting line, and let the product's own output be the image. It also fits any case where the work itself is more persuasive than any claim you could write about it.
