Why it works
The figure-ground split does the whole job: the illustration is not next to the type, it is the panel the type is printed on, so you cannot look at the robot without reading the billing. Silkscreen economics forced three colours and no halftones, which pushed the designer into radical simplification, and the reduction is what makes the head readable from across a street. The diagonal light beams break the rectangle and pull the eye up and out, while the underscored type lines pull it back down, so the poster holds attention in a loop. Naming the director in the smallest line but the same lettering style borrows credibility without spending headline space.
