Why it works
Every word is drawn with the same brush and the same two inks as the picture, so type and image cannot be separated - the poster is one painting, which is the strongest possible argument for going to see the paintings. The figure's raised arm and reclining body cut the sheet into two vertical channels, and each channel takes one block of information: venue and hours on the left, what and when on the right. Sizing is pure hierarchy by hand - MOOS and BARRAUD are the two biggest words because they are what a Geneva reader would recognise, and the price gets the last and heaviest line. Two inks on cream keeps a loose, almost sketchy drawing from turning muddy and makes it hold at distance.
Steal this when
Use this when what you are selling is an aesthetic and the poster can be a free sample of it - an exhibition, a studio, an illustrator, a craft product. Hand-letter the copy in the same medium as the artwork and let the figure's pose carve out the columns the text lives in.
