Why it works
The staff is a single long diagonal that fixes the reading path, and the two title words are set on that same axis so lettering and image share one gesture instead of competing. Splitting the stripes into separated wedges converts a static flag into speed lines, which is what gives a poster with no event details any energy at all. Colour is doing the ranking: the two loudest reds are the stripes and the date, and nothing else competes with them. The footer band ties a local occasion to the larger centennial without stealing the headline.
Steal this when
Use this when you have a symbol everyone already knows and almost no copy, and the job is to give the symbol movement rather than explain it. It is also the model for tying a local event to a bigger campaign by demoting the umbrella brand to a footer band.
