8th year of Des Moines public forum - Harry Overstreet, famous American philosopher, will discuss a personal philosophy for these times
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
The stippled oval is a spotlight faked in a medium that cannot do gradients, and it isolates the speaker block so the eye never has to choose where to start. Yellow is rationed to exactly the four things that sell the event, the name, the billing, the topic and the date, so hierarchy is carried by colour rather than by size alone and the blue and grey lines can stay quiet. Turning ADMISSION FREE onto its side in the margin keeps the strongest objection-killer permanently in view without letting it compete for the headline slot.
Steal this when
You are announcing a free event whose whole draw is one named speaker and one subject line. Spotlight the speaker block, ration a single accent colour to name, billing, topic and date, and park the price objection in the margin where it reads without stealing hierarchy.
