Why it works
The poster splits its jobs cleanly: a solid black band with reversed capitals does the long-distance read, and the drawn vesica does the close read, so it works both across a street and at arm's length. Running the institution name along the curve of the almond converts a dull address line into part of the ornament, which is how the piece carries a lot of text without looking like text. The tree performs the arithmetic of a fortieth anniversary without a word of copy - old trunk, new flower, dated root - so the ordinal in the headline is confirmed rather than merely claimed. Leaving the bottom corners as bare paper gives the very dense upper two-thirds somewhere to breathe and suits a sheet that will be pasted at eye level.
Steal this when
An anniversary edition of a recurring event where the number is the actual news - put the ordinal in the biggest type and let one image prove the passage of time. Also the trick to copy when you have an unavoidable block of address and date text: curve it into the frame so it reads as decoration.
