Ontwerp voor een affiche voor thee van E. Brandsma, Amsterdam
The pattern
This still is filed under Demonstration ad.
Define
The product does the arguing. The viewer sees the thing work, not a slogan about the thing working.
Mechanism
Proof by performance. The claim is the action: a visible, testable result the reader can replay.

Why it works
The product is invisible and the origin story does all the selling - the drawing is a small stage set of Japan built entirely from props the buyer already reads as authentic. The lettering is the only element allowed to be flat and graphic, so the eye lands on the word THEE first and then falls through the illustration to the teapot at the bottom, which is where the promise becomes physical. Placing the sage on a cloud and the girl on the ground splits the composition into the idea above and the goods below, a cheap but effective way to make an ordinary grocery feel ceremonial.
Steal this when
Reach for this when the product itself is undifferentiated and the only available lever is provenance. Build the entire frame out of origin props, let one large drawn word carry the category, and put the physical product at the bottom where the eye finishes.
