The pattern

This still is filed under Demonstration ad.

Define

The product does the arguing. The viewer sees the thing work, not a slogan about the thing working.

Mechanism

Proof by performance. The claim is the action: a visible, testable result the reader can replay.

Verdict

Read the pattern

Why it works

The product has no visible form, so Mucha invents a notation for it: the vapour ribbons from the censer and the trailing cords of the pendant are the only moving lines in an otherwise still panel, and the eye follows them straight to her face. Setting the name on an arch turns the words into architecture, a doorway the figure stands inside, which makes the name a place rather than a label. The tall narrow format was sized for kiosk columns and for repeating a wall into verticals, and it enforces the discipline visible here: no body copy at all, with the street address doing the entire job of the call to action.

Steal this when

Use this when the product itself is invisible, such as fragrance, sound or comfort. Invent a graphic notation for the intangible, let it lead the eye to the face, and let the name and a single address be the only words.
